Get the Job Done this Autumn

Summer whizzed by in a blur…and with it, all your time to get your hard landscaping sorted. Luckily, Autumn is the perfect season for your landscape construction projects!

Your Vision | Our Expertise

We might as well get real about it: our Canterbury summer was a fizzer! But even if it had been a long, hot scorcher, what are the odds you’d have got all your outdoor jobs done? Like that outdoor kitchen you promised yourself. Or the brazier pit. Even the path down the side of the house.

Luckily, Canterbury autumns bring the perfect weather for getting your outdoor areas sorted.

From Foundation to Finish

He’s said it before, and he’ll say in again:

‘Like anything, it’s about having the correct base. Any surface will look good for a period of time, but if the base isn’t good, it’ll fail.’ – Mathew Austin.

We don’t build your pergola or install your outdoor fire. But we do lay the foundations and the concrete or asphalt for your alfresco masterpieces, and we take pride in getting everything right underfoot. Whether you’re creating a patio, an entertainment area, or a path to the front door, it needs to be done well to stand the test of time and to uphold the integrity of the structures you place on them.

For example, a steel reinforced concrete slab is usually the recommended base for an outdoor fireplace. The majority of fires weigh in somewhere between 1200kg – 1900kg (yep, around 2 tons!) so choosing the right base is vital.

Maybe you’d prefer a flickering fire pit as your centrepiece. Your choice of pit should be dictated by what’s underfoot (as well as proximity to the house, fences and trees for all those obvious safety reasons!) A flat, non-combustible surface is essential for the very best of ambient campfire vibes.

Or perhaps you just want your guests to arrive safely? Your driveways and your paths shouldn’t be neglected, from both an aesthetic and practical perspective. Site clearance, path dimensions, excavation to a specified depth, soil compaction, a compacted gravel base, sand levelling, drainage considerations and formwork are all part of the equation.

But What’s So Good About Autumn?

From our perspective, we’re in the fringe season – not too hot, not too cold – and the perfect time to tick off those outdoor jobs before next summer rolls around and you wish your landscape construction projects were done!

It’s also a great time of year for planting out your lawns and your new garden beds. With cooler temperatures and moderate humidity, conditions are ideal for plants to establish strong root systems before winter arrives, ready to thrive come spring.

So, call us today and let’s get your outdoor hard landscaping projects underway!

Digging for Fun!

The Swannanoa Fair was a resounding success and we had so much fun with all the little (and not so little) people who were digging and dunking for treasure!

Showcasing our electric digger, the weather turned it on for a magical day where everyone scooped a prize.
